HMRC Updates It’s Response Time For Some VAT Applications

HMRC has extended it’s turnaround time for replies to certain VAT applications.


VAT Notices 700/2 and 700/11 have been released to advise that the extended time limit to 40 working days in which taxpayers can expect to receive a reply from HMRC is with immediate effect.

  • Group and divisional registration (VAT Notice 700/2) – HMRC intends to acknowledge group registration applications within 40 working days (previously 15 working days).
  • Cancelling your VAT registration (VAT Notice 700/11) – HMRC expects to acknowledge applications for cancellation of VAT registration within 40 working days (previously 30 working days).
